What To Prepare:
You will be reading from the script at the audition. No need to prepare in advance.
All rehearsals and performances will take place at The Epic Center.
All performers will be paid a $350.00 stipend, mailed at the close of production.
Video audition submission requests can be sent to [email protected] no later than Tuesday, February 27, 2024.. Audition sides will be provided once the request is received.

SYNOPSIS:
Every girl needs her place to shine.
Set in North Carolina in the 1960s, North Star is the story of Relia, a Black girl, searching for her place to shine in both society and her personal life. The joyous innocence of Relia's summer is transformed by the rising tensions of the growing civil rights movement. Relia's parents are hotly divided between letting her participate in the demonstrations and shielding her from the harsh realities of the civil rights struggle and their community's battle for freedom. Relia's memories of magical moments stargazing with her father help guide her as she risks her life to be a part of the "Dream" and the "Big Freedom."

AURELIA TAYLOR - Adult Relia, African-American
RELIA TAYLOR - 11, child Aurelia, Negro
MANSON TAYLOR - Relia’s father, Negro. Thoughtful, determined undertaker
KATE TAYOR - Aurelia’s mother, Negro. Loving but “does not play”
WILLIE JOE POOLE - 12, best friend of Relia, Negro.
MISS COOPER - The Librarian, white.
GRANMA - Manson’s mother, Negro.
FRANKLIN - Community college student, Negro.
HAWKINS - Friend of Manson, Negro. Janitor, big talker but dedicated to “the case”
REVEREND BLAKE - Family minister, Negro. Friend of Manson, soft-spoken, clear-sighted, slight stutter, quiet will of steel
MR. CONNELL - Manager of five and dime store, white.
JAKE - Farmer, white. (Can be played by Mr. Connell)
VOICE of UNCLE FRANK - Willie’s uncle, killed but appears in a dream. (played in silhouette by Franklin or other male character

PRODUCTION SCHEDULE:
- Rehearsals: 7-10pm; Sundays through Thursdays, from March 3rd to April 4th.
- Tech: 3-10pm on Sunday (04/7) through Wednesday (04/17) from 6-11pm
- Shows: Thursday Invited Dress Rehearsal (04/18) through Saturday (04/20) @ 7:30 PM; Saturday (04/27) @ 2:00 PM and @ 7:30 PM. (A brief talkback will follow every performance.)
*A reception for actors, crew, company, and audience will occur on either opening night or closing day of the show.
