It’s 2019. Nic, a 28-year-old NYC-based journalist, has built her career writing gritty investigative stories. Her editor assigns her a story that could take her career to the next level: overtaxed Detroit homeowners.
To pen the story, she must return home to Detroit after being away for ten years and finds herself facing what she’s been running from.

Director's Note

I am thrilled to introduce "Bambiland" as a pivotal production in our ongoing mission to create impactful work that resonates deeply within our community. Kendra Ann Flournoy, a co-founder of our company and a gifted playwright, has crafted a narrative that not only explores the personal journey of its protagonist but also celebrates the vibrant spirit and resilience of Detroit.
"Bambiland" centers around Nic, a tenacious 28-year-old journalist based in New York City, whose career is defined by her fearless pursuit of gritty investigative stories. When Nic is assigned to investigate the plight of overtaxed homeowners in her hometown of Detroit—a story that could propel her career to new heights—she must confront the ghosts of her past and the unresolved emotions she has long avoided.
This story resonates with me deeply as both an artist and real estate professional. The poignant exploration of the victimization faced by Black homeowners highlights systemic injustices that continue to impact marginalized communities.
I invite you to join us on this journey as we bring "Bambiland" to life on our stage. Together, let us explore the intersections of personal ambition and social responsibility, and strive to build a more just and compassionate community through the arts.
