THE COLORED MUSEUM by George C. Wolfe

In the season opener for season 2, FOTC presented THE COLORED MUSEUM.  It depicted 11 “exhibits” of African-American culture from the depths of the celebrity slave ship to the spinning heights of Harlem.  George C. Wolfe’s groundbreaking drama is hilarious and discomforting, skewering stereotypes and exploring what it means to be black in contemporary America. Many say the play was the precursor to the popular 90s show In Living Color.  Audience members  were led through a tour of the “exhibits” by a tour guide and in between each tour they were able to enjoy live music and poetry by Kalamazoo’s own Truth Tone Records, as well as, wine and hors d’ oeuvres.
